»Rights group: 1,000 seized in Gambia ‘witch-hunt’

Around 1,000 people accused of being witches in Gambia have been locked up in secret detention centers and forced to drink a dangerous hallucinogenic potion, according to human rights organization Amnesty International.
Thousands of people are deprived of their freedom for the weakness of a man who cannot overcome the death of his aunt. I understand it’s sad, but come on Mr. President, witches? Really?
»Pope tells Africa ‘condoms wrong’

HIV/Aids was, he argued, “a tragedy that cannot be overcome by money alone, that cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which can even increase the problem”. The solution lay, he said, in a “spiritual and human awakening” and “friendship for those who suffer”…While in Africa, the pontiff is expected to talk to young people about the Aids epidemic and explain to them why the Catholic Church recommends sexual abstinence as the best way to prevent the spread of the disease.
The Pope, in fact, made a very good point when he mentioned “friendship for those who suffer.” This sort of mindset is the basis for community-based support service, and I fully support that position. However, when it comes to saying “Condoms? No. Just don’t have sex,” I think he is lacking practicality. If it was that easy, AIDS wouldn’t have shown this much of a spread in the first place.
